Shorpy/ A Blog Worth Visiting/ My Photos From The 50's
Every once in awhile someone comes up with a very bright idea for a blog. Here is an interesting blog with photos from the 1850’s to the 1950’s.
And while we are at it why don’t I find a few photos from the 1950’s when I was just a little guy and put them up here. Shorpy has put me in the mood. They may not be as fascinating as some of these photos but they are from the same time period!
I keep trying to tell people that when I was small I was made to shovel the front driveway and the snow was sometimes over my head.
Well here’s the proof! I’m suprised they took photographic evidence of it. What’s the “statue” of limitations on this sort of thing? Oh wait. I’m the statue and a frozen one at that. Nevermind. There’s also a photo here of my dwarfish style period. I was a big fan of Snow White.
Time certainly flies does it not? I’m sorry that none of the younger folk will ever have photos of themselves from the middle of the last century. But that’s the way it goes. At least you had computers when you were growing up.
And you didn’t have to shovel truckloads of snow in central Massachusetts.

The baby in the pic is so cute.
Hi Dear David, I’ve been going through a bunch of posts here and am so enjoying myself. But I had to stop and comment on this one. I so relate to the piles of snow, the clothes, the black and white photos. I was born in 53 so you speak directly to a time I also know. Aside from all your incredible kindness and your talent as a photographer and poet, it has been rewarding knowing you because you come from the same generation. So many around me online are so young.
You are absolutely adorable here. You look like you were as sincere and earnest then as you are now. It’s wild to look at these and still see this beautiful part of you that is still intact in the adult. So many lose that.
I think this is a great idea and I’ve thought of doing the same thing. I think it will be fun. I don’t have a lot of photos of when I was little but enough that I would do a slide show or post. Thank you for sharing these my dear friend. They are so beautiful…..and yes, time really does fly. I can remember playing in mounds of snow like it was yesterday. Some days it feels so long ago and other days it’s as if I blinked and 50 years went by. Time is such a weird thing. Really doesn’t exist at all. And yet it is a good reminder to REALLY live as fully as we can now. I forget who wrote the quote but it goes something like this. “Youth is wasted on the young!” LOL!! Yes!
Sending you lost of hugs,
Robin
