My wife and I had a wonderful day walking through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge last summer. It was very hot as usual in August but once we reached the ocean it was quite pleasant. And except for the buildings off the distant coastline we were alone with nature. Here are some of the photos I took that day. It’s a lovely place and we hope to go back there again this summer when we are at Virginia Beach.

As we walked around the paths and through some deep grassy areas we came upon this bird looking for his breakfast. He was absolutely still and when we came back this way he had not moved. So we know he was here for at least one half hour. It is so quiet and peaceful here in the National Wildlife Refuge. And we were not bothered by flies or mosquitoes. It really is a different world and so close by our home.
Those who have supported and planned the protection of these areas deserve a lot of credit.
