Feel The Breeze/ Paul Hardcastle/ Virginia Beach And Virginia Breeze

Is it time to head for the beach? I think so.

Click on the music and then the photo thumbnail for a slide show presentation. Feel free to fiddle with the number of seconds each photo is shown. I would set it to coincide with the music but don’t think the process allows one to do this. Or it requires skills beyond my reach at the moment. Suggested slide duration: 8 seconds.

Feel The Breeze

I guess this post pretty much sums up this blog at the moment. We have just reached the two year mark this week and I can’t think of a better way to recognize the moment than to do something like this. I have enjoyed the journey very much and feel that this type of post is a culmination of the things I have learned about blogging and photography to date.

I’m still riding the wave in any case. Where will it lead next? Well it would be nice to figure out how to merge music and photos in a video without losing some of the photo quality. And it might be interesting to merge photos and poetry in some way.

It would also be nice to solve some of the technical problems this blog has been having for the past two years. But let’s not be too optimistic. These photos were taken last year but never edited. Some may seem familiar but they are different perspectives on familiar subjects. Hopefully I will be heading to the beach soon to take some more!

Once they solve the technical issues surrounding our building! In other words. . . finish putting the new skin on the building (see post last April about our adventure way up high with plastic over the windows). Unfortunately the same issues that are affecting the economy and housing everywhere are present here.

It’s time to hit the beach again and we are just about ready. The repairs on the building are (hopefully) coming along and we no longer have to worry about seagulls flying through our bedroom while we are trying to sleep. Here’s one of Roy Orbison’s classic homages to women who make the landscape so much more attractive than it otherwise might be.

Where would be be without them? Depressed for sure!

Camping Out At The Beach/ Virginia Beach/ Maintenance And Repair

Camping Out At The Beach/ Virginia Beach/ Maintenance And Repair

We arrived at the beach yesterday and were amazed to see our building covered in green drapes!  It’s undergoing a facelift and there is scaffolding over much of it.  See the photos for a better idea of the situation.

Beth pointed out to me that you can stand in a room and look at a wall socket and see. . .

Daylight!

Nice.  And the “windows” are covered with plastic.  Fortunately it only got down to forty something last night and there wasn’t much wind up here.  But who knows what it will do tonight!  My lovely wife keeps telling me it’s an adventure.

And we did have a very nice day after the rain cleared out.  We walked the boardwalk and went out to dinner.  Then we got under the blankets and watched Carolina dismantle Michigan State in the NCAA basketball finale.   Congrats to our ACC!

I woke up at six this morning and headed for the beach to take some photos.  It was pretty cold but that didn’t prevent a couple of surfers from heading out into the surf with their wet suits and gloves.

I found a perch and took a few photos of the birds,  our denuded building and the US Corps of Engineers dredging Rudee’s Inlet.  Lots of maintenance going on as the beach folk prepare for another vacation season.

Hopefully somebody will arrive once it is all completed.

Virginia Shore/ Back Bay, originally uploaded by Davidlind.

Here’s a photo from last summer down near Virginia Beach.  This is the protected area so there are not a lot of people around and no buildings.  It’s a very peaceful place.

I wish I could say the same about the weather today.  Beth tells me there are tornado warnings out there and we are getting ready to head down the road.  Perhaps we will wait a little while.  I have never actually seen a tornado but there have been a few down through the years here in central Virginia.   I rememember one that tore up a local Walmart  store a few years ago.
We are leaving Zachary and the dogs in charge here.  So I am reflecting on the notion that vacations are supposed to be relaxing at the moment.  When does that part start?  Hopefully soon.
It’s supposed to be rainy all week which I don’t mind.  It’s not exactly beach weather to begin with and we are hoping to do some indoor things as well as take walks outdoors.   There’s some exercise equipment and an indoor pool in the condo.   But they are also replacing all the windows and doors to the outside and if they get to us while we are there it will not be a pretty picture.
We may end up in Nags Head!  Or back home by tomorrow (you listening Zachary?).
Oh!  The sun just came out.  Maybe it’s time to make a dash to the coast!   Bye for now.

Warm And Sunny Sunday Afternoon/ We Go To Maymont Park

Beth and I had company this weekend but after everyone left we headed for the park to get some exercise and talk about our Spring vacation.  We have two weeks to relax and get out of town this time of year.  And for the second time in two years we have made plans to visit our nation’s capitol as well as Virginia Beach.

We talked about starting an exercise and dieting program because we have kind of let things go over the winter.  I realized that I need to do it not just for myself but for her as well.   And she’s probably not going to do it unless I do it.

It’s a strange circle and one we need to break up.  So it’s going to be a “working vacation” in a sense.  Of course, you can walk your buns off in Washington DC without any problem.  But going out to dinner every night and having the opportunity to dine on fabulous cuisine will offer some challenges.   We may have to start that part of the program after we get back.

So it was warm and breezy today and we walked all over Maymont Park.  They have a new exhibit area with some great birds on display.   The eagles are awesome.  The hawks have beautiful feathers.

And we spent some time enjoying three baby goats.  Beth said it was one of the cutest things she has ever seen.  They were having a great time and the crowd was enjoying them too.

So we walked and walked.  The bears were busy sleeping and I would never have seen them if Beth has not pointed them out up in the rocks.

Lots of folks were throwing balls and someone had set up the game with the little hoops and mallets.  What’s it called?  You hit a ball around the lawn and try to be the first one to get back to the beginning where there is a small pole driven into the ground.

Anyway there were people doing that and lots of cameras around.  Photography seems to be an ever more popular hobby from the number of SRL cameras I see in my travels.
